Accessibility

Last updated October 22, 2026

We want everyone to be able to play the daily game. Here is what works today and what we are still improving.

Our target

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. We are not there everywhere yet, and the game has not had an independent audit. The known gaps are listed below rather than hidden.

Playing the map with a keyboard

When a map clue appears, keyboard focus moves to the map so you can play without a mouse or touch screen:

  • Arrow keys pan the map.
  • + and − zoom in and out.
  • Enter or Space drops your pin under the crosshair in the centre of the map.

Buttons and links elsewhere in the game work with Tab, Shift+Tab, Enter and Space, and show a visible gold focus ring. Menus close with Escape.

Motion and sound

  • Motion toggle: the wave button in the header switches between full and reduced motion. Reduced motion cuts animations and transitions down to near-instant changes. Your choice is remembered on this device.
  • Sound toggle: the speaker button turns all game audio on or off. Nothing in the game depends on hearing a sound to play.

Known limitations

  • The map round is visual by nature. Screen reader users can move and drop the pin with the keyboard, but the map itself cannot be fully described in words.
  • The map round’s shot clock counts up and gives a speed bonus for quick guesses; taking longer costs only the bonus. The stadium pulse and the follow-the-ball cups move at a set pace. Reduced motion slows the cups shuffle, but there is no way yet to pause or adjust the timing further, so these rounds may be hard with switch access or other slower input methods.
  • The map draws with WebGL. On devices or browsers where that is unavailable, the game falls back to a simpler map, which has less detail.
  • Some decorative animations in the stadium scene are not described to screen readers.
  • We have not yet checked every colour pairing and every screen against WCAG 2.2 AA contrast and target-size rules.

Tell us what is not working

If something gets in your way, email hello@fourthandmiles.com. Tell us the device, browser and any assistive technology you use, and which part of the game gave you trouble. We read every message and aim to reply within five business days.
